The 8 panel drug test is one of the popular methods for testing for drugs. It’s simple to use, affordable and can detect a few more types of drugs than regular 5 panel drug tests.

8 panel drug tests

The 8 panel drug test can detect the presence of drugs in one’s system. The “8” in the name represents the number of drugs this test is able to detect. The test consists of a single cup with panels on its insides. The panels will react to the urine sample and display control lines based on the samples collected.

The 8 panel drug test is one of the many improved versions of the standard 5-panel drug test with the addition of Methamphetamine (mAMP), Benzodiaze Tubes (BZO) and (Oxycodone) OXY.

What is an 8 panel drug test

An 8 panel drug test is one of the many popular panel drug testing items which consists of only a cup. In order to test someone for drugs, that someone needs to provide a urine sample using the 8 panel drug test. The sample comes in contact with the 8 panels located on the sides of the testing cup, which in turn produces positive, negative or invalid results.

8 panel urine drug test

After drug consumption, certain chemicals and traces will remain in one’s system for several days after consumption. These traces can easily be detected by the 8 panel drug test through urine. The panels will cause a reaction which will display visible control lines that will in turn inform the testee and the examiner of recent drug consumption.

How does an 8 panel drug test work?

The 8 panel drug test works by having the testee urinate in the testing cup. The cup contains sensitive panels that will react with the urine sample and will display a result of the test using visible control lines. Depending on the lines displayed it can be determined whether or not someone has recently used any illegal drugs or substances.

What does 8 panel drug screen test for?

The 8 panel drug screen tests for the basic five drugs present on the standard 5 panel drug test, along with 3 new additions: Methamphetamine (mAMP), Benzodiaze Tubes (BZO) and (Oxycodone) OXY.

The following drugs can be detected on the 8 panel drug test:

  • Amphetamines (AMP)
  • Morphine (OPI)
  • Methamphetamine (mAMP)
  • Benzodiazepines (BZO)
  • Cocaine (COC)
  • Oxycodone (OXY)

How to use an 8 panel drug test

  3. The patient will hand over the cup to the medical expert where the date and the initials will be confirmed, as well as, cap tightness
  4. The peel-off label will be removed
  5. In 2-4 minutes after the peel has been removed the temperature label should change color to green, indicating a proper temperature 90 – 100°F (32 – 38°C)
  6. Results of the drug test will appear in the results area 5 minutes after the test has been performed. The results will be displayed in the shape of color bands in the results area section

8 panel drug test results explained

Each of the 8 panels located on the 8 panel drug test will have invisible control lines. Once they come in contact with the urine sample, the lines will make certain lines visible which will, ultimately, inform any examiner of the correct results of the test. The results can be determined as such:

  • Positive – only the above “C” line appears
  • Negative – both the “C” and the “T” line appear
  • Invalid – only the “T” line appears or no line appears

In case of an invalid result, the patient may be required to retake the test.
