The 16 panel drug test is a great method for doing a more thorough testing than most other panel drug tests. The 16 panel drug test can detect 16 different chemicals found in more than a dozen illegal drugs and alcoholic beverages.

16 Panel Drug Tests

While it may sound like an advanced piece of equipment, the 16 panel drug test can be conducted anywhere where the donor can produce a substantial urine sample.

Because of it’s high detectability, this test is recommended for workplaces where employee drug tolerance is very low.

What is 16 Panel Drug Test

The 16 panel drug test consists of a testing cup. The donor simply urinates into the testing cup in order to finish the test. When the urine sample comes in contact with the cup, it will trigger a reaction by the 16 pads located within the cup. By coming in contact with the sample, the panels will display visible lines that will indicate whether the donor had recently consumed any drugs prior to testing.

16 panel urine drug test

The 16 panel drug test is able to detect traces of more than a dozen illegal drug substances by coming in contact with the donor’s urine. Most drugs will leave various traces in one’s system which can easily be detected in one’s urine sample, which is exactly what this drug test does.

16 panel alcohol drug test

Unlike most urine drug tests, the 16 panel drug test is able to detect traces of a few alcoholic beverages from the urine sample.

How does 16 panel drug test work?

The donor simply needs to urinate into the testing cup in order to complete the testing process. The 16 panel drug test is a simple cup with sensitive panels.

  • Cocaine (COC)

How to use the 16 panel drug test kit

Step by step guide to using the 16 Panel Drug Test Cup:

  1. The patient will remove the cup from the sealed pouch and proceed to use it as soon as possible
  2. The patient will urinate into the cup after which the cup should be screwed tightly. Once the cup has been screwed, the timer for the test will start
  3. The patient will hand over the cup to the medical expert where the date and the initials will be confirmed, as well as, cap tightness
  4. The peel-off label will be removed
  5. In 2-4 minutes after the peel has been removed the temperature label should change color to green, indicating a proper temperature 90 – 100°F (32 – 38°C)
  6. Results of the drug test will appear in the results area 5 minutes after the test has been performed. The results will be displayed in the shape of color bands in the results area section
  7. In case of positive test results, another method may be sent to a toxicology laboratory to re-confirm the positive test

Both positive and negative results of the 16 Panel Drug Test Cup should be viewable within 5 minutes, however, either result will be taken to a medical institution for further testing and re-confirmation. Positive results will take longer than that as they are tested several times to make sure it isn’t a false positive.

16 panel drug test results explained

The 16 panel drug tests will give initial results using control lines laid out on the 16 panels adjacent to the cup. Just like most urine drug tests out there, the panels can potentially display two types of control lines: the “C” line and the “T” line. Depending on the number of lines that appear we can determine the results which go as follows:

  • Positive – only the above “C” line appears
  • Negative – both the “C” and the “T” line appear
  • Invalid – only the “T” line appears or no line appears

In case of an invalid result, the patient may be required to retake the test.
